When we were kids we were waiting for holidays, the summer holidays which used to start from April and ends at May end… Then again the mid year holidays which used to be in October. Just before the holidays we were busy planning about what are we gonna do during those days. Fulfilling the promises which made to relatives during school days about visiting their families.
Then, going to granny’s house where all the bunch of cousins join… ‘ wow, it was amazing’.
Well, my granny had 40 grand kids. During holidays we all used to join together in our eldest uncle’s house where it was a feast for my eldest aunt. All the time they had to plan what to make for kids. My aunt used to plan the best of best things and she used to make us delicious food. In those days our life was all about eating, playing in the farm, running around the estate, making fun of each other and ofcourse fighting etc.
It was a huge house where many could accommodate. We used to accommodate the bed rooms to play the family games, where we used to have 2 families. The one family visits the other one, and then we play rehersal of weddings, cooking different things where in reality we are not allowed to carry anything from the kitchen… we had the meat vegetables as the leaves in around.. Our currency was leaves, where we used to have lot of money. We used to have live bands for the weddings we used to conduct..
All elders of the family, so called our parents, uncles aunts just used to enjoy watching us around. There were two cousins of mine, always used to play the roles of girls where they used to cover their head with clothe and do the cat walk on ramps of the farm or in the field lanes. It was an entertainment for all young cousins who were of the age between 4 to 10. They both used to play the roles of girls where I had two cousins who used to act the role of males who used to fall in love with them, then kidnap and we used to go to have fights in their house etc. We used to have different things which we used to name it as vehicles. The branch pieces of coconut were our bikes, areca nut branches were our carts where we used to use for pulling, also they used to act like carpets. The small rocks around are the chairs. The fruits we used to find in our farm were also part of our dinner and lunch. It was fun all the time playing around the bushes, in the mud playing cooking , making idlies, dosas and what not..
We had the phones which were our land phones made up of match box and long thread. We used to use some stick as the cigerates where we used to burn at one end and inhale.
Play in the lorry of my uncle with all cousins… and I was one of the naughtiest one who used to make all kinds of franks in my uncle’s house to get attracted.
Some how everyday was new day for us with different theams to our games. Well, and the day we are done with it we used to be so exhausted, just wait to eat dinner and sleep off..
Again the next day, the new day begins with new hope… when we have to go back home during back to school days we used to miss each other so much and feel so bad… While leaving from our granny’s house we used to cry on each others arm and get back home. More than us our aunt used to feel so bad about us. As we grew up we all departed to different places around the world. The two cousins who were acting like girls , became priests.
